Wallpaper

21 July, 2008 (16:17) | Computers | No comments

For the last few weeks I’ve been collecting wallpaper from around the internets. I’ve finally put together a separate page with them all collected together, newest ones at the top. Right now there are 78 of them. I should probably add some kind of pagination now that it’s grown so much.

Every image should be available in both 1440×900 and 1920×1200 resolutions. I picked these two because they’re the resolutions I use. If you’d like to see something in a different aspect ratio, feel free to download and hack them up. In Windows you can use paint.net, a very cool free image editor. If you’ve got a Mac you can use Preview, which is built-in. If you’ve got Linux, well, I guess you can use The Gimp if you really need to.

None of these images are my original creation; I take no credit for them. I’ve left in signatures and such wherever I could. My sources have mainly been /wg/ on 4chan (probably NSFW) and threadless.com. I’ve also recently found a few by going to artists that I like and seeing what they like, looking for sketches and such. I also got a few from a friend of a friend.

So that’s part of what I’ve been up to lately. If you like what you see, comment! If you have something you’d like me to put up, or think I might like, comment! I think I’ll keep up-to-date with additions, as they happen.

What could I stimulate?

8 July, 2008 (11:52) | General | No comments

Somehow I managed to squeek under the maximum taxable income allowed to get an Economic Stimulus Check.

Yay! $600! Take that future generations!

So how should I use this to stimulate the economy?

  1. 64 GB of USB drives (eight 8GB SanDisk Contours) - $579.47, shipped!
  2. A Dell 24″ monitor - $416.38, shipped!
  3. A new regulator - $427.40, shipped!
  4. 9 sets of my favorite shaving cream & lotion - $566.55, shipped!
  5. 40% of this awesome looking Sony HDR-SR12 HD cam corder - $1,407.34, shipped
  6. A day in San Francisco (SAN → SFO, plus hotel) for two - $439, from orbitz
  7. 3 TB of storage - $579.12, shipped!
  8. 11 to 12 console video games (roughly $50 each)
  9. 60 albums from iTunes
  10. About 13 seconds of Paris Hilton’s time (£70k for 50 minutes earlier this year = $2,758.28/min)

If you get any other bright ideas, please post them!

Colorized `cvs up` output

29 May, 2008 (16:07) | Computers | 1 comment

Found a post about colorized `cvs up` output but wasn’t very happy with the multiple pipes to sed so I thought I’d see what I could do.

Below is the awk code I came up with:

$1=="A" {printf("\033[1;32m%s\n",$0)}
$1=="C" {printf("\033[1;31m%s\n",$0)}
$1=="M" {printf("\033[1;34m%s\n",$0)}
$1=="U" {printf("\033[1;37m%s\n",$0)}
$1=="?" {printf("\033[1;36m%s\n",$0)}

Save it in a file named something like color-cvs.awk and use it like:

cvs -q up | awk -f color-cvs.awk

Doing it this way makes it easier to customize colors, I think.
